The Kinsey Institute Juried Art Show opens May 16

Unique is one way to describe the annual Kinsey Institute Juried Art Show. Its thought-provoking and memorable contemporary art — paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, videos, sculpture, ceramics and fiber art — converges on the Grunwald Gallery of Art at IU Bloomington after an internationally known competition.

I always enjoy visiting the exhibit, which is part of IU’s Summer Festival of the Arts. This might be the year when I make it to the opening, which I’m told is very entertaining. Many of the artists attend, and visitors get to vote on the “Gallery Visitors’ Choice” award ($200). Multimedia intern Lena Morris created the video, which shares information about the exhibit and includes some of the art.

About the Indiana University Summer Festival of the Arts

The Summer Festival of the Arts began in 2011 and seeks to bring all of Indiana University Bloomington’s cultural elements together, including live music, theater, dance, conferences, lectures, art openings and films. Events take place from May until August and ensure those visiting Bloomington as well as students, community members and IU faculty and staff are aware of the rich cultural offerings on campus. Calendar listings can be found on the festival website, artsfest.indiana.edu. For event updates, follow @IUArtsFest and #IUArtsFest on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
