IU Auditorium campaign opens doors for Big Brothers Big Sisters
Fifty paired “siblings” with Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Central Indiana recently received free admission to IU Auditorium’s recent production of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast,” thanks to a new campaign sponsored by the venue.
Throughout the season, donor and corporate sponsors participated in the auditorium’s newly launched “Give the Magic” campaign. Funds raised go toward providing underserved Bloomington youth with access to the venue’s varied productions, educational outreach initiatives and supplemental programming.
IU Auditorium associate director Maria Talbert said the campaign was the brainchild of community and corporate relations manager Jane Averitt, who recently retired.
“This was something she developed in order to help create opportunities for underserved children in the Bloomington area to interact with and experience the performing arts,” she told Art at IU. “And we’re just thrilled that we have this many people here who may have not been able to see a show here otherwise.”
