Transformative power of music focus of IU Soul Revue’s spring concert
The IU Soul Revue’s spring concert will use the transformative power of soul music to express various dimensions of African American life, including a high-energy dance party, a call to socio-political reflection and the nuance of an intimate relationship.
The IU Soul Revue’s spring concert is Saturday, April 27.
Set to begin at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater in downtown Bloomington, the concert will include music by Stevie Wonder, ConFunkShun, the S.O.S. Band, Sly and the Family Stone, Al Green, Anita Baker, Aretha Franklin, Jill Scott, Earth, Wind and Fire and others.
“Our rhythmic groove and vibes will make audience members feel like ‘I’ve been here before,’ shifting our performance into a soulful reunion,” IU Soul Revue director Tyron Cooper said. “We hope our performance will make you dance, ponder, cry, shout and fall in love again — or for the first time — during the course of a short night.”
One of Indiana University’s African American Arts Institute three performing ensembles, the IU Soul Revue was established in 1971. Cooper is a two-time Emmy Award nominee and has arranged for various artists including Dionne Warwick and Walt Whitman and the Soul Children of Chicago.
General admission tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children and students, with a limit of two tickets per student ID. Tickets are available at the theater’s box office at 114 E. Kirkwood Ave. or by calling 812-323-3020.
